Employment Opportunities

Elementary School Teacher (two positions available)

This position teaches lower elementary school students by providing appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities.  The key responsibilities include the following:

  • Provides engaging and empowering instruction to students in a private school.
  • Reflects a commitment to Gospel values and Christian tradition in their personal and professional life. 
  • Plans and delivers daily lessons in assigned content areas based on standards and benchmarks established by the Diocese of Savannah.
  • Coordinates classroom instruction in a collaborative manner with other educators. 
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, peer educators, and administration. 
  • Complies with policies and procedures established in the Diocese of Savannah in accordance with the philosophy of Catholic education. 

This full-time yearly contract position will begin in August 2023.  An undergraduate degree, teacher certification, and 3+years’ experience is required.  

Music Teacher

This teaching position provides appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities for students in Pre-K2 through sixth grade in voice, instrumental, and music theory instruction. The Music teacher leads the student choir each week during school Mass and other school events and celebrations. This position also embraces and models the philosophies of Catholic education and moral teachings through their personal and professional interactions. 

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements: 

  • Reflects a commitment to Gospel value and Christian tradition in their personal and professional life.
  • Provides engaging and empowering instruction to students in assigned content areas based on standards and benchmarks established by the Diocese of Savannah and the National Standards for Music Education. 
  • Creates daily and long-range lesson plans. 
  • Has knowledge of or is willing complete training in liturgical music. 
  • Directs the school choir at Mass, prayer services, school concerts, and community events. 
  • Plans and executes school music programs such as Fine Arts Night, concerts, class performances, and community events. 
  • Coordinates classroom instruction in a collaborative manner with other educators. 
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, peer educators, and administration. 
  • Complies with policies and procedures established in the Diocese of Savannah in accordance with the philosophy of Catholic education.
  • Develops and participates in curriculum and other developmental programs such as Electives.

This full-time yearly contract position will begin in August 2023.  An undergraduate degree, teaching certification in related field, and 3+ years’ experience is required.  

Instructional Aides

Instructional aides assist the classroom teacher in providing appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities for students. Aides must be able to lift 30 lbs., be on their feet for extended periods of time, and adhere to guidelines established by the Diocese of Savannah and St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Job duties include assisting the lead teacher with lesson planning and preparation, working with students in small group instruction, leading activities, and communicating effectively with children and families.  Instructional aides are ten-month positions.  

Extended Day Program Assistants

St. Joseph’s Catholic School is seeking after school assistants for the Extended Day Program for the 2021-2022 school year.  This is a part-time position (Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 pm, with some flexibility) and is open to retirees, part-timers, college students, etc. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing completion of homework assignments with assistance when needed
  • Monitoring the distribution of snacks.
  • Monitoring indoor/outdoor activities with particular attention to safety and well-being.

An assistant should be physically able to engage in light activities with children, possess the ability to multi-task, and be capable of maintaining close observation at all times. An assistant should understand the level of responsibility that comes with managing children entrusted to their care and must exhibit mature conduct at all times. He/she should be adept at diffusing minor disagreements.

Substitute Teachers

Substitute teachers provides instruction and supervision in the absence of the classroom teacher. He/She oversees classwork according to lesson plans, maintains a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment, as well as supervises the students out of class such as in the hallways and during recess.
