Preschool Teacher

Lead 4K Teacher and Lead 2K Teacher (two separate positions available)

St. Joseph’s Catholic School is seeking a strong preschool teacher for each our 4K classroom and our 2K classroom. The ideal candidate will provide appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities for all students as well as meet the following qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age. 
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with an equivalent of six (6) college credits in early childhood education.

OR

  • Hold an associate’s degree with an emphasis in child development or early childhood education.
  • Must maintain recency-of-credit (six college credits or its equivalent) every five year.

Essential Skills

  • Understand a child’s social/emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual developmental needs. 
  • Must be a very patient individual.
  • Demonstrate the ability to create and effectively implement age-appropriate lessons and activities.
  • Possess the ability to balance safety considerations with the child’s need to be active. 
  • Possess the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, peers, and administrative staff. 
  • Possess the ability to work both independently and with others.

  • Safety and well-being of the children in your care.
  • Providing a loving, healthy, and safe environment. 
  • Creating and submitting age-appropriate lesson plans.
  • Implementing daily curriculum and activities for the children.
  • Nurturing the social/emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development of the children.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and reporting any suspect of abuse to supervisor.
  • Attending staff meetings.
  • Keeping all appropriate records such as attendance, time sheets, accident reports, etc.
  • Adhere to all employee policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties assigned by the principal or supervisor.

Compensation

Preschool Assistant Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Classroom Assistant to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will support teachers in delivering engaging lessons and fostering a positive learning environment for students. This role is essential in helping to facilitate effective classroom management and promoting student growth in both academic and social skills. A passion for education, particularly in early childhood development, is crucial for success in this position.

Duties

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and curriculum activities.
  • Support students in literacy education and math skills, ensuring they grasp fundamental concepts.
  • Help manage classroom behavior by employing effective behavior management techniques.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to foster a collaborative educational environment.
  • Provide individualized support to students as needed, catering to diverse learning styles.
  • Participate in curriculum development initiatives to enhance educational programs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Assist with classroom activities, including preparing materials and supervising group work.

Experience

  • Previous experience in an educational setting, particularly with early childhood education, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with childhood development principles and practices.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of literacy education strategies and math instruction techniques is advantageous.
  • Experience in private school settings is a plus but not required.

Instructional Aides

Instructional aides assist the classroom teacher in providing appropriate learning experiences and educational opportunities for students. Aides must be able to lift 30 lbs., be on their feet for extended periods of time, and adhere to guidelines established by the Diocese of Savannah and St. Joseph’s Catholic School. Job duties include assisting the lead teacher with lesson planning and preparation, working with students in small group instruction, leading activities, and communicating effectively with children and families.  Instructional aides are ten-month positions. Extended Day Program Assistants

St. Joseph’s Catholic School is seeking after school assistants for the Extended Day Program for the 2025-26 school year.  This is a part-time position (Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 pm, with some flexibility) and is open to retirees, part-timers, college students, etc. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing completion of homework assignments with assistance when needed
  • Monitoring the distribution of snacks.
  • Monitoring indoor/outdoor activities with particular attention to safety and well-being.

An assistant should be physically able to engage in light activities with children, possess the ability to multi-task, and be capable of maintaining close observation at all times. An assistant should understand the level of responsibility that comes with managing children entrusted to their care and must exhibit mature conduct at all times. He/she should be adept at diffusing minor disagreements.

Substitute Teachers

Substitute teachers provide instruction and supervision in the absence of the classroom teacher. They oversee classwork according to lesson plans, maintains a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment, as well as supervises the students out of class such as in the hallways and during recess.
